So far, it would seem to be heading past Jade Hare the Covered.
The thing with this item is there is a tremendous amount of demand past the usual suspects to go against a tremendously weak supply. There are lots of Planescape enthusiasts that probably couldn't care to scratch two pennies for other rarities. Only Greyhawk comes to mind as a rival enthusiast group that would drive market conditions in a similar way. _________________

Oh heck, I just noticed that is PurpleDragon. One nice guy who picked that item up for like $25 via BIN on that auction. One hell of a payday! _________________

No joke. Works the other way around, too. From here that's about as engaging as watching a high-flying baseball card auction...

I am not sure what it means. But I have more original PS art than I do any of the gaming items. I keep meaning to try to pick up a couple of lots somewhere of the common stuff, but there is just too many purchase opportunities that come along for the original art. _________________

Query aside: has a 2nd woodgrain actually topped $2k? I recall a mixed set just shy, but might have to recheck records later. A rather recent feedback "spike" in prices for that one, anyhow, since those 2nds used to go for pretty much the same as the 3rds.
Can think of only a very small number of non-unique/"regular issue" modern gaming items in the $2k band, several of which are "unconfirmed" (that now-vanished Inverness which was listed at $3k, for example).

I thought there were a couple 2nd woodys that topped $2K, but maybe it was just one. I know that the 1st and ST1 have topped $2K more than once. It's rarified earth, that $2K number. The 1st woody is interesting for topping $4K a couple of times, but I wouldn't pay over $3K for one now given how many have popped up in the past two years. _________________ "This is cool."

Checked... $1,999 BIN. Still unsure why Lance didn't go higher on the /very/ sweet US-only auction + supplements prior to that...
Can't find any over $2k even aside from that mixed(?) set (the stickered one?) asking for more on a BIN but never got that and eventually auctioned for rather less. Another 2nd + supps (somewhat beat up) started at $2,450, flopped, started again at $2,250, flopped once more, then went to private discussions and a few months later popped up at a $950 BIN to seal the deal.
WoM syndrome? (i.e. if you see an item often enough at $x, someone will eventually believe it's worth that and bid accordingly, even if it doesn't sell since that fact is forgotten after a time).

Once the $1k barrier was broken things got "interesting" but agreed, $2k is /very/ serious money. The new "hidden" bidding scheme on eBay will probably help to keep driving up the high-end $ in general, I guess, but few people are willing to be stuck "accidentally" with a purchase of that magnitude.
*wonders whether anyone's keeping an "all-time" league table for items topping at over $250-500, say, given that the next (selective) Acaeum auction-data update still ain't in sight*

Paying $1k three or four years ago would've been much less painful for anyone who actually "needed" one?
aside: Anyone have any idea whether the buyer in HongKong finally got what they were looking for and what they might've paid, if so? (Might guess not since they've kinda stepped back into the shadows... unless someone sold their collection lock-stock-and-barrel in that direction!).

I bet your right. There was that strange auction for a second that started high and then came down gradually because no one was bidding on it. There was a brown box at GenCon that went for $2700 or something, but I didn't hear what print it was. _________________ "This is cool."

$2,400 for the 1st print, $950 for the 2nd and $525 for the mystery "3 book set without box, but has hobbits"
aside: The seller of the 1st print was also owner of the 2nd Chainmail which went for $560 and 1sts of Blackmoor, Eldritch and G,DG&H which barely sold at the $50 (each) opening ask (to a certain big-name reseller, I think) and a 2nd (n.b.) Greyhawk which failed at that price.

It's not done yet. There should be an $1800 bid coming and maybe a $2000. I can't imagine it going for much more, but this is an unstable business, so who knows. _________________ "This is cool."
